Email: help.denia@gmail.com
The Centre is open on Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), from 10.00am until 2.00pm for general queries and for the loan of equipment, and additionally on Monday and Thursday from 10.00am until 4.00pm for care and social activities.
The HELP Centre has three main purposes:
- Administration and information
- Loan of equipment
- Care and social activities
ADMINISTRATION & INFORMATION
We provide help and information to the general public: which would include callers to the centre, to telephone queries or to emails.
This includes all matters relating to the services provided by the “HELP” organisation, help and advise on local medical facilities, provision of leaflets and contact information.
We can provide you with details of medical equipment available for loan at the centre or from one of our district officers.
We also administer and coordinate our membership records and volunteer capabilities.
EQUIPMENT LOAN
The bulk of the loan equipment is housed at the centre and is available for loan at the times specified or at other times if an emergency. (See the separate web page “Equipment for Loan” for details of equipment, deposit charges and contact information).
CARE AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
On a Monday and Thursday the Centre is open until 4.00pm for care and social activities.
This facility is primarily aimed at people who are perhaps currently being cared for by family or friends, who in turn may feel the need for a short respite. If you are a carer and need a respite day, please call the Help Centre to make arrangements for your relative or friend to visit the centre, on a one-off or more regular basis. Of course if any carer would also like to come to the centre, they would be more than welcome.
The centre and its facilities are also available to anyone that maybe living alone, or recovering from illness, and would like to meet with other people in similar circumstances to participate in friendly social activities.
If you would like to attend but would have problems getting to the centre, please contact us at the HELP Centre, as we may be able to provide assistance for you with transport.
ALL VISITORS ARE WELCOME.
There are normally two HELP volunteers during these sessions at the centre, who have experience in care provision or social activities.
The centre provides a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for those visitors who would like to take part in such activities as card games, scrabble, dominoes, or just general conversation. Books, magazines, local papers, jigsaws and “talking books” are always available, and the “talking books” are available for loan to take away, for those who are now finding difficulties with reading.
We also have an arrangement with a local hairdresser, and we can if needed provide a carer as accompany you during your appointment: please enquire at the centre for details.
Light refreshments are provided, and visitors are encouraged to join in and help if they so wish.
On a monthly basis there are more organised activities. You may contact the HELP Centre for a timetable of events at any time during normal office hours.
The activities include:
A “Gentle stretch and tone” session: for those who wish to take some simple exercise without too much exertion.
A “Bridge club” for beginners or experienced players.
A visit from a qualified chiropodist (please book an appointment at the centre).
It is planned to introduce other regular activities in the future, as suggested by our visitors, and information will be made available as they come to fruition.
Often people who could benefit from these facilities may not know they are available. If you know such a person, please pass on our details to them, and ask them to contact us.
We will do our best to help people to get to the centre and to enjoy their time at the centre.
