Fund Raising Events

Paqitas Country Club presentation of cheque

At a recent meeting of Paquitas Country Club Sylvia Hollender, Bridge Director, was pleased to present a cheque of 300euros to Jalon Valley Help on behalf of members of the Valley Bridge Club who are regular supporters of the charity.

Elaine Horton, Vice President, in thanking those present for their generosity took time out to tell everyone present about the charities new initiative ‘Casa de Animo’ which aims to provide all those living locally with a ‘Drop-in’ centre where people of all nationalities can come to in times of difficulty whilst also providing a much needed opportunity for those who are frail and isolated to enjoy some social contact. None of this she said ‘would be possible without the continued support of the local community and donations such as that presented by the Valley Bridge Club for which we are truly grateful’.

She also appealed to those present to consider becoming volunteers in order to assist the charity in providing support to the housebound. ‘Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience’ she said and anyone interested should call 699152167 as we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Be Nice Day Sponsored Walk

Arranged with Bay Radio this walk through the beautiful lanes of Alcalali raised over 1000€ which enabled us to donate money to Caritas as well as helping people in need in the Jalon Valley

Jalon Valley Help volunteers need your help.
Over the past year the charities volunteers have busily knitting, patients at the hostel in Fontilles were the first to receive their help when volunteers provided over 40 blankets and shawls, the latter being used as Christmas presents.
More recently, in recognition of the impact the current economic situation is having on families, the volunteers have turned their attention to the needs of children living locally. Currently the emphasis is on the production of warm jumpers and cardigans the first of which are pictured here being presented by Marina Zimmerman, one of the charities newest recruits, to Pilar ….. a member of Caritas who will distribute them to needy families in the area.
Volunteers aim to continue knitting throughout the coming year in order to ensure an adequate supply for next winter but unless donations of wool are forthcoming this will not be impossible. Suitable items will be gratefully received at either of the charities shops in Alcalali and Jalon.
Jalon Valley Help is always pleased to hear from those who have a few hours to spare and would like to contribute to the work of the charity so if you would like to help please phone 659624643 we are looking forward to your call

Almond Blossom Walk February 2011

There were freezing temperatures and ice on the road but it didn’t deter approximately 80 people in joining Jalon Valley Help’s hardy volunteers on their annual almond blossom walk. Despite the cold and the distinct lack of blossom folk had travelled from as far away as Campello and Albir to support the charity and in demonstrating their appreciation donated in excess of 136euros, many expressing the view that they would be back again next year.

A spokesperson for the charity commented “It was good to see such support, Jalon valley Help is a hardworking organisation dedicated to improving life here in the Valle de Pop and to assisting in individuals and families in times of need, to do this we are heavily dependent on the generosity of both local businesses and the wider community. Needless to say we are always pleased to hear from people who are prepared to offer their time and enthusiasm in pursuing the aims of the organisation. We are also very grateful to those who donate items which can be sold in order to raise funds, these items are happily received at either of our two shops in Alcalali or Jalon.”

The walk will take about 3 - 3.5 hours on mainly good tracks at a very easy pace. Appropriate footwear must be worn and water and refreshments to be brought along. The event is held free of charge but donations would be very much appreciated on the day.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Cowardy Custard at Alcalali Theatre

Josie Lucas Jalon Valley HELP’s President, thanking the Cast of “Cowardy Custard” presented by the Footlights Company at the Alcalalí Careline Theatre last Friday (17/9). This fast moving, entertaining revue, words and music written by Noel Coward ran for over 400 performances in London in 1972. This one-off performance, staged for the benefit of the local Charity Jalon Valley HELP was an entertaining and feel good factor evening, much enjoyed by the packed theatre audience.

Coward’s bitter sweet lyrics, wittily satirizing the London and New York societies into which his fame and success swept him in the 30’s and 40’s, were given the golden touch by Director and Choreographer Val Turner. With the polish of Roger Dean as Musical Director ensuring that Coward’s much loved songs, whether witty, romantic or just plain fun came through to move and entertain the Alcalalí audience.
Costume changes, dance routines and stalwart solo performances , a special mention for 14yr. old Sebastian Baldwin, all aided by the enthusiastic, hardworking cast members gave the show a real sparkle. With raffle ticket sales of over 400 euros the total raised on the evening to benefit Jalon Valley HELP’s work in the area was 1689 euros. Sincere thanks to all at Footlights and Careline and the front of house helpers and to all who came to support us.
